The festival is an important and long-standing tradition of the Yi ethnic group, and is celebrated on the 24th or 25th day of the sixth month on the Yi calendar. /VCG Photo
The festival originates from the worship of fire by ancestors who believed that fire had the power to repel insects and protect crops. /VCG Photo
During the three-day festival, locals walk around the fields and houses with torches. Visitors could enjoy interesting activities like dance performance, horse racing, bullfights, arrow shooting, wrestling and tugs-of-wars. /VCG Photo
