Review: BRICS Film Festival over the years

South Africa will host the 10th BRICS Summit and the 3rd BRICS Film Festival later this month. BRICS is the acronym for an emerging-market bloc that groups Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The 3rd BRICS Film Festival is set to kick off on July 22 and will conclude on July 27 in Durban. The five countries will participate in the film festival which will be the main focus at the Durban International Film Festival.
The BRICS Festival will recognize the following awards: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Editor, Best Cinematography, Best Composer, as well as the Special Jury Award from submitted feature films.
The statue award in Durban will be named the Golden Rhino.
According to the hosts, the name was inspired by the history behind the golden rhino that was discovered in Mapungubwe, the significance of the place and the linkages with other countries in the earlier century. In China, it was the Panda Award.

The 2016 BRICS Film Festival was held in the Indian capital city of New Delhi. 
Twenty films from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa took part, including four Chinese films, "Xuanzang," "Song of the Phoenix," "Go Away Mr Tumor," and "Book of Love."

Chinese film "Xuanzang" was directed by Huo Jianqi who was awarded Best Director, and Raam Reddy’s Kannada film "Thithi" was conferred the Best Film award.

The 2017 BRICS Film Festival was held in Chengdu in China's southwestern Sichuan Province.

During the film festival, more than 200 screenings of over 30 films from the five BRICS nations took place in theaters and communities around Chengdu, including an anthology by five directors from member countries, "Where has the Time Gone."

This multinational film's five-part feature involves Brazil’s Walter Salles, Aleksey Fedorchenko from Russia, Madhur Bhandarkar from India, Jia Zhangke from China, and Jahmil X.T.Quebka from South Africa.

The 3rd BRICS Film Festival is aimed at celebrating world-class film productions from BRICS nations with the objective of inspiring more collaborations from these nations. It is a major cultural event ahead of the annual BRICS summit.
