President Xi urges ideals and values for Chinese youth in new era

Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a speech to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the May Fourth Movement Tuesday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, sharing his hopes and expectations for the Chinese youth in the new era.
"The youth is the most active and energetic force in the entire social force, and the hope of the country lies in the youth, the future of the nation lies in the youth," said president Xi, adding that the young generations are living in the best period of time in the development of the Chinese nation, facing unprecedented opportunities and challenges. 
Chinese youth should uphold high ideals in new era
President Xi stressed that Chinese youth in the new era should have lofty aspirations and strong faith, which are the driving momentum of the nation in the new era. Xi believed that despite different goals and career choices, the young Chinese can better fulfill life values while integrating the individuals into the needs of the country.

Xi stressed the importance of patriotism among the young
Xi emphasized lifetime love of the country among young people, encouraging them to contribute more to the glory and honor of the motherland, noting, "For the Chinese youth in the new era, patriotism is the foundation for the success."
Chinese youth should shoulder responsibility of the times
"The new era calls for its responsibilities, and national rejuvenation is the responsibility of the youth," said Xi, telling young people to shoulder the responsibilities of the era. He hoped that Chinese youth in the new era cherish the times, bear the responsibilities bestowed by the new era, and improve themselves while fulfilling their duties.
Xi encouraged the young to forge ahead in the new era
"Hard work is the best mark of youth," Xi said, noting that the young generations should aspire to be the pioneers and contributors that lead the era, breaking open a way through brambles and thorns, to "make achievements while dealing with difficulties and deliver new miracles with hard work so that the world will give you a new perspective."

Young generations should seize their moments and live up to the times
Xi urged Chinese youth in the new era to develop strong capabilities at their age, which is a golden period to learn knowledge and improve skills. The contemporary world sees increasing knowledge and the emerging of new technologies and new businesses, which provide broader stages, and meanwhile, pose higher requirements for the youth. Xi urged young people to broaden their visions and keep up with trends, which move very fast.

Xi also pointed out that to build China into a strong nation, we should not only focus on the materials but also the spirits. "A spiritual power is a long-lasting, profound and infinite power," said Xi, noting that Chinese youth should make constant efforts to cultivate virtues and combine right moral senses with common practices.
