Xi's messages to China's youth

"Young Chinese people always play a vanguard role in realizing national rejuvenation," Chinese President Xi Jinping said at a ceremony to mark the centenary of the May Fourth Movement in Beijing on Tuesday.

The day was established to honor the patriotic and anti-imperialist movement that began on May 4, 1919, when a group of Chinese students protested the weak diplomatic response of the Chinese government at the time to the Treaty of Versailles, marking the beginning of China's new democratic revolution.

CGTN analyzed President Xi's speech at the gathering, and listed the words he used the most in the word cloud below.

"Youth," "Chinese Nation," "People," "Endeavor" and "Rejuvenation" are the five most frequently mentioned words and phrases.

The May Fourth Movement, "with its mighty force, inspired the ambition and confidence of the Chinese people and nation to realize national rejuvenation," Xi said.

President Xi's focus on the youth could be traced back years.

In his previous speeches on youth, "Youth," "People," "Socialism," "Endeavor" and "Development" were the most prominent words.

"A nation will prosper only when its young people thrive; a country will be full of hope and have a great tomorrow only when its younger generations have ideals, ability, and a strong sense of responsibility," Xi said in a work report delivered at the opening session of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.
