The United States' latest accusations against China in the updated Section 301 report are groundless and totally unacceptable, China's Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) said on Thursday.
"China has reiterated that the so-called Section 301 investigation is only a demonstration of protectionism and unilateralism, where the US is unilaterally putting domestic law on top of international rules," MOFCOM spokesperson Gao Feng said during a weekly press briefing.
On Tuesday, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) renewed unfair trade accusations about China in a follow-up report on its Section 301 investigation into China's practices related to intellectual property.
Gao said he hoped the U.S. would stop using words and actions that damage bilateral economic and trade relations and take a constructive attitude, so as to create favorable conditions for bringing China-U.S. ties back on track.
Asked about the progress on China-U.S. trade negotiations, Gao said the working teams of both sides are maintaining close contact to implement the consensus reached by Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump over a phone call earlier this month.
