Chinese cricket team suffers record defeat against Nepal

China may be a dominant power when it comes to sponsorship in the world of cricket but the country's inconspicuous cricket team has failed to make a mark until now.

In fact, since hosting cricket at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, the Chinese cricket team has suffered a series of dismal performances. The latest came in the form of their lop-sided defeat against Nepal as their small Himalayan neighbors chased down the Chinese total of 26 in just 1.5 overs in the latest regional qualifier of the International Cricket Council for the next World T20 in 2020.

As a result of this morale-crushing defeat China slumped to their fifth defeat out of five in the ongoing tournament.

In the one-sided game, just one Chinese batsman, Hong Jiang Yan reached double figures as he made 11 from 27 balls after taking the guard as an opening batsman.

Seven of the Chinese batsmen fell for ducks as Nepal's latest sensation, 18-year-old legspinner, Sandeep Lamichhane, returned with a stunning figure of three for four in four overs to take his tournament tally to 20 wickets.

The Nepalese openers didn't have to burn a sweat as they accomplished their winning target in just 11-balls with opener Binod Bhandari hammering 24 off eight deliveries with the help of three fours and a six.

Previously, the Chinese cricket team lost a mammoth margin of 390 runs -- the highest in a 50-over match -- against Saudi Arabia in a World League qualifier in April last year.
