A liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, registered in the Republic of Korea (ROK), leaked gas into sea waters near the Dongying port in east China's Shandong Province on Saturday morning.
According to the local government, the leakage happened around 10:30 a.m. because one of its valves could not be fully closed and the maritime department is monitoring the environment around the area.
The vessel is reportedly loaded with 1,850 tons of liquefied gas and 15 people, including five from the ROK, five from Indonesia and the rest from Myanmar, were aboard.
A search and rescue team immediately located the spot of the leakage and efforts have been made to deal with the accident.
