Golf: Max Homa wins his first title on PGA Tour

Max Homa won his career's first PGA Tour title after carding a 67 and surging to a three-shot victory in the last round of the Wells Fargo Championship.

The 28-year-old finished at 15-under-par to claim his maiden trophy, just two seasons after making it to Sunday once in an entire campaign.

Rory McIlroy came in two shots behind, only to dump his approach at one into the bunker. He managed to save par, but ended up carding a 73, and finished eight back at minus-seven.

England's Olympic gold medalist and world number two Justin Rose wrapped up the weekend all alone in third, at minus-11.

Joel Dahmen came in tied for the overnight lead, sinking the first of his three birdies at six, but was still looking for his first win, after a score of 12-under-par left him three off the pace.

And fittingly, Homa broke his duck, as the American's par putt at 18 closes out his maiden victory on the PGA Tour.

Homa made sure he didn't need to sweat at the end, as three birdies and just one bogey helped ensure a comfortable finish over Dahmen. Those two shared the overnight lead with Jason Dufner, whose 73 dropped the 2013 PGA Championship winner into a four-way tie for fourth, while McIlroy wound up with joint eighth.
