The tweet, posted by @WhiteHouse on Friday, said Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump “had tea with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle before departing the U.K.” The post was later deleted after Twitter users highlighted the mistake.
This is not the first time that Trump has displayed confusion over the sovereignty of Scotland.
On June 24, 2016, the day after the Brexit referendum, Trump posted on Twitter “Just arrived in Scotland. Place is going wild over the vote. They took their country back, just like we will take America back. No games!”
