Book on urban immigration wins at 2nd JD Literature Prize

Chinese’s author Wang Anyi’s book about immigration between cities won the best novel (domestic) at the second JD Literature Prize on Thursday.
The book – entitled Hong Dou Sheng Nan Guo – mainly talks about three people’s lives in Shanghai, Hong Kong and New York.
American writer Marilynne Robinson won the best novel (international) thanks to her novel - Housekeeping.

Both writers are each granted a money award of one million yuan (156,000 US dollars) .
The prize is organized by JD – a giant Chinese e-commerce company headquartered in Beijing. Chinese Nobel Literature winner Mo Yan headed the 30-member jury.
“As a writer, I’m relatively insulated from the outside world. I seldom surf online, but I do feel the changes the Internet has brought to our lives. I hope the JD Literature Prize will continue and encourage more and more writers,” said Wang Anyi after winning the prize.

JD also announced the most popular books among readers based on its big data revealing readers’ reading habit. Several books including “Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow” and “Peppa Pig”.
JD now remains one of the biggest online book trading platforms in China. Its online book sales volume accounts for over 36 percent of the whole market in China.
