The 18-year-old Chinese tennis talent Wang Xiyu overwhelmed Danielle Lao of the United States on Wednesday and took up one spot in French Open women's singles second round qualifiers. This is the second time for Wang to get into the second round qualifiers this year following her performance at Australian Open.

It was a clear victory. Wang overshadowed Lao 26-3 in winners and closed the game 6-1, 6-1.

However, facing an experienced opponent, the young Wang did have a mental battle.

"I felt a bit nervous as it is my first match of the campaign here. I tried my best on every point," said Wang.

Wang captured her maiden major title at the U.S. Open junior tournament last year and only started her first senior Grand Slam qualifying campaigns.

Feeling the difference between senior and junior matches, Wang noted, "senior players move faster, and are stronger and more experienced."

"I think the mindset is my advantage, as I pose as the challenger in the match," she pointed out.

Wang is going to continue her journey in Roland Garros in the second round starting Thursday.
