China urges the U.S. to abide by the one-China policy and the three Sino-U.S. Joint Communiques, after Washington sent two warships through the Taiwan Strait on Wednesday.
"China has closely observed the situation of U.S. warships passing through the Taiwan Strait, and has voiced its concerns to the U.S.," China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang told a regular news briefing on Thursday.
The Taiwan issue is the most important and sensitive part of China-U.S. relations, Lu said, urging Washington to uphold and respect the agreed upon one-China policy and the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques.
"The U.S. should cautiously handle Taiwan-related issues, to avoid any harm to bilateral ties, and to maintain regional peace and stability," Lu said.
