Chinese archaeologists have selected the top 10 archaeological discoveries in China for 2018. The list has been published by the China Archaeological Society and a newspaper sponsored by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage. Focused on China’s prehistory, they also include a more recent discovery from the early 20th century.
In south China's Guangdong Province, the Qingtang Site sheds light on prehistorical life in the region. The clam shell artifacts and pottery also promise to present better understanding of South-East Asia's early history.
In central China's Hubei Province, the Neolithic site at Shayang City has become the biggest cemetery thus far discovered in the lower and middle reaches of the Yangtze River.
In the hinterland city of Yan'an, northwest China's Shaanxi Province, China's earliest temple and shrine buildings have emerged, after surveying of rammed-earth foundations, as dating back to the New Stone Age.

In western China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, a 400-square-meter housing complex has yielded an array of bronze metallurgy implements and traces of the earliest human use of coal.
In the province of Shanxi, exquisite pieces bronzeware have been dug up among a group of ancient tombs, which are believed to house remains of Shang Dynasty nobility, from China's early history.
Among other discoveries are the remains of an outlying kingdom during the Eastern Zhou period in the seventh century BCE, wood bridges and waterworks first constructed during the Tang Dynasty in the eighth century, a palace of the Jurchen regime in the 11th century, a Song Dynasty courtroom in now southeast China's Chongqing Municipality, and the maritime site of a major naval battle during the War of Jiawu.
