Twitter user “@CarlZha” uploaded a promotional video for the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) on October 18. The video had been viewed more than 20,000 times and whipped up discussions online. The video highlights Chinese soldiers’ masculinity and sense of duty to defend the people as well as their family value. Some netizens outside of China even said they wanted to join the Chinese army. They were moved by the ethos of the PLA, which focuses on courage, devotion and sacrifice.
