Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Ministry Wang Yi is going to pay an official two-day visit to Russia from May 12 and meet with Russian leaders and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, Geng Shuang, spokesperson for Chinese Foreign Ministry told reporters at a regular press conference on Wednesday.
According to Geng, the visit will further implement important consensuses made between leaders of the two countries during their meeting in April and to enhance bilateral cooperation in various areas as well as the strategic cooperation in international affairs.
Geng pointed out that Wang's visit will set the stage for the annual exchange of visits by top leaders and to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of China-Russia diplomatic ties. He expected the visit would contribute to the development of China-Russia relations.
The two ministers will also exchange views on bilateral relations and major international and regional issues of common interest, said Geng.
