A young Chinese table tennis lineup for the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games was released on Tuesday by Chinese Table Tennis Association (CTTA) – a coexistence of opportunity and challenge said by two head coaches.
Aimed at forging a solid foundation for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the selected ten (five men and five women) were qualified via requirements such as CTTA points, Open Championships. Fan Zhendong and Zhu Yuling lead the teams of men and women respectively.
Li Sun, the head coach of women’s team, said the five participants got the strength with the high level of skill. Asian Games could examine their anti-pressure without the veterans Ding Ning and Liu Shiwen.
The coach figures a younger lineup would bring the team energy. "Once encountering challenges, the team should be revitalized adding the competitive atmosphere which enables the team to confront the pressure positively and take the initiative.”
Asian Games would be a big test for the five participants, said Liu Guozheng, the head coach of men’s team. He expects that the five players are to perform well, as well as be united with the team.
Despite "fresh" teams, Liu said the goal was not changed. "The belief in the championship cannot be shaken."
