At the WCF Women's World Championship in Silkeborg, China defeated hosts Denmark to notch up an impressive 8-4 victory on Monday.
Earlier, the Chinese players were looking to stay the only undefeated rink at the tournament when they put their 4-0 record on the line against the hosts.
Skipper Mei Jie spearheaded her side to the comfortable victory that prevented the Danes from winning their first game.
The Chinese team was expected to win the contest in their rivals' own backyard even though Denmark participated in the Winter Olympics six times in the past.
Danish skipper Madeleine Dupont took out one of her stones and loaded the house with China's yellow rocks.
However, Wang Rui was able to draw around the outside to score two points.
China went on to capitalize on Danish mistakes to build an unassailable 6-1 lead that allowed the PRC to cruise and simply ensure that Denmark didn't have any big ends.
The strategy worked as China went on to win 8-4 and improved to 5-0 as well as the first place in the round robin standings.
While speaking on her side's remarkable victory, Mei said, “Denmark are a team with great experience who competed in the World Championships many times. We had to pay more attention to every move we made and put all of our skills into practice. As a result, our opponent could not fight back and we got the victory.”
Meanwhile, her rival counterpart Dupont conceded, “They are very good. They played like professionals. It was very tough to beat them.”
