The red and white giant flying squirrel, with a length of more than a meter from head to tail, is the largest species of the giant squirrel. It is endemic to southern and central China. The Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is a paradise for these agile creatures.
Famous for its ability to "fly", this squirrel can glide from tree to tree at distances of about 10 to 20 meters, thanks to its parachute-like membrane called patagium.
CGTN Nature's documentary crew is currently filming at Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. The footage they've sent back provides us with a glimpse of this amazing natural wonder. More stunning videos of Zhangjiajie are coming soon, so please follow our updates.
