The Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee on Friday held a meeting to discuss a draft report on the work of the government, stressing that efforts must be made to deepen reforms in key areas and advance all-round opening-up this year.
Xi Jinping, Chinese president and general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, presided over the meeting.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC), noted a statement released after the meeting, adding that it is a crucial year for achieving the goal of completing the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects by 2020.

The government must implement a proactive fiscal policy and prudent monetary policy and give high priority to employment in 2019, the statement said.
It called for efforts to improve the business environment, foster and strengthen new growth drivers, develop a robust domestic market, implement poverty alleviation and rural vitalization programs, and promote coordinated development in various regions across China.
The government must also intensify efforts to fight pollution and protect the environment, deepen reforms in key areas, advance all-round opening-up, and improve people's livelihood, according to the statement.
Last year, China celebrated the 40th anniversary of the start of its reform and opening-up – a landmark drive that has transformed the once poor country into the world's second largest economy.
Chinese leaders have repeatedly stressed that the country will deepen reform in the pursuit of high-quality development and open its doors wider.
The draft version of the government work report will be submitted for deliberation at the annual session of the National People's Congress (NPC) in March.
Friday's meeting also deliberated several other documents, including a report on the work of the central leading group on disciplinary inspection in 2018, a report on the inspection on the nationwide poverty alleviation program, and regulations on evaluating the performance of leading CPC and government officials.
