A train carrying Chinese who were wounded or killed in a major traffic accident in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) set off for China late on Wednesday night. DPRK leader Kim Jong Un visited the Pyongyang Railway Station to see the train off.
Kim again expressed deep condolences and sympathy to the victims and their families, and comforted the wounded personnel.
"It is, indeed, very sad that the close Chinese friends, who had come here with the feelings of friendship with our people, met with an unexpected accident on our land. We make a deep apology to the Chinese comrades for the pain, which cannot be alleviated with any word, consolation and compensation," read Kim’s message, carried by the official KCNA news agency.
The DPRK would make every possible effort to assuage the grief, it added.
The train arrived in Shenyang, northeast China’s Liaoning Province, at 9:00 a.m. BJT on Thursday morning. Chinese Minister of Civil Affairs Gao Xiaobing greeted the train's arrival.
China
will continue the necessary arrangements for follow-up arrangements, foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said on Thursday.
A total of 32 Chinese tourists were killed and two others were critically injured on Sunday when a bus fell off a bridge in DPRK's North Hwanghae Province. Four DPRK citizens were also killed in the accident.
