People pay the price for any form of war, Fu Ziying, China International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce, said at a press conference on Tuesday in Beijing.
He was responding to a question about if there are any solutions for the trade war with the US.
There is a misunderstanding about the tens of millions people still living in poverty in China because poverty alleviation is one of the country's main priorities, Fu said when asked if the China-US trade talks are meaningless, a widely considered thought now that the US has tried to put the brakes on China's economic ascent.
China has a large economy and trade volume, but its per capita income is relatively low, Fu said, adding that the middle and west of the country still have a severe poverty problem.
Curbing the development of others and causing conflict are not in line with the path of human development, he said, noting that China would like to pursue better development opportunities with other countries.
