Troupes compete for 29th China Theater Plum Blossom Awards

The latest China Theater Plum Blossom Awards, the country's top honors for opera and drama, will be handed out on Friday in the southwestern city of Nanning. On Tuesday, theater troupes competed in the live performance section.
For the audience, it was a feast for the eyes and the ears, with productions, chosen from 44 entries covering 13 genres, staged in Nanning city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
They included stage plays, Peking Opera, Kunqu Opera and Yueju Opera. Among them, "White Haired Girl" attracted a lot of attention.

It was performed by the China National Opera and Dance Drama Theater. The first Peking opera performance of the story was put on stage in 1958. But this time, new elements were added.
Other highlights included Kunqu Opera performances like The Peony Pavilion and The Jade Hairpin, as well as Peking Opera show, Chun Qiu Er Xu.
The first China Theater Plum Blossom Award was held in 1984. It took place annually until 2005, when it became a biennial event.
