Deep in the Taklimakan Desert is an oasis named for its special shape of a giant gourd. This is Huludao (Gourd Island in Chinese), a paradise in Yuli County of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The oasis is located at a bend in the lower course of the Tarim River, which flows across the Taklimakan Desert.

Apart from the landscape, Huludao is also known for the surrounding desert poplars. As the poplars turn gold every autumn, the blue lake, the yellow desert and the golden forest together create the stunning views of this region.
