Within hours of Prince Harry announcing his engagement to American actress Meghan Markle, unofficial merchandise was already on sale at souvenir shops across the UK. As wedding fever hit its peak, Britain was awash with quirky trinkets from the traditional to the ridiculous and the absolutely delicious. I spent a day looking around London to see what’s out there for royal fans.
Traditional (with a twist)
A commemorative royal wedding tea towel is about as British as you can get when it comes to wedding souvenirs. The official commemorative tea towel is cornflower blue with a gold monogram of the couple's initials side by side, tied together with a white ribbon.
But for those who want something a little less traditional, there is plenty to chose from. We Built This City on London’s iconic Carnaby Street sells alternative souvenirs, curated to showcase the creativity of the UK’s artists and designers. The store's founder, Alice Mayor, says one of their top-selling tea towels shows Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s faces in a tattoo style. They also sell mugs, bunting, biscuits, tea… the list goes on. There is no limit as to what can be turned into a royal wedding souvenir.

Ridiculous
Online retailers are also cashing in on the royal couple’s big day and some of the things that are being sold are beyond the ridiculous. There are royal condoms, swimsuits with Harry and Meghan’s faces printed on that would certainly turn heads at the pool, and I even found one website that was selling bottles of air that will be collected from Windsor on the day of the royal wedding. But for the ultimate souvenir – a royal selfie – then you can't go wrong with a life-size cutout of the royal couple.

Delicious
London patisserie Maitre Choux is celebrating the royal wedding with a special lemon and elderflower eclair – the same flavors that Prince Harry and Meghan are using in their wedding cake. This seemed like the perfect way to celebrate the royal couple’s d'eclair-ation of love, so I popped into their Soho store for a taste and it was "mouthwateringly" delicious. If the royal cake is as good as the royal eclair, then the wedding guests are in for a treat.

For the anti-royals
The Royals are not for everyone. In fact, a recent poll found that two-thirds of Brits are not interested in the event, and I've found the perfect souvenir from them at We Built This City.
