Zhang, from China’s northern Shanxi Province, suffered rheumatic arthritis when she was only 6 years old. Two years later, she became fully paralyzed and was told that she would have to spend the rest of her life in bed. /VCG Photo

But Zhang did not give up on life. She began to paint to pass the time in bed. Though her hand joints weakened over the years, Zhang kept drawing and even managed to open an online art shop to sell her works. /VCG Photo
