Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held phone talks with US President Donald Trump on Thursday, where the two discussed policy measures ahead of the first-ever US-Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) summit in the coming weeks, according to a statement by Japan’s foreign ministry.
Passing along the DPRK's positive attitude, Abe also briefed Trump on the details of the China-Japan-Republic of Korea summit, the ministry said. In a press conference following his phone conversation, Abe said that he congratulated Trump on the latest diplomatic efforts made between Washington and Pyongyang.
A summit between US President Donald Trump and DPRK leader Kim Jong Un will be held in the coming weeks. US President Trump on Wednesday said he will announce the date and venue of his meeting with Kim within three days and ruled out the Demilitarized Zone on the Korean border as a potential location. Reports have speculated that Singapore is a likely location for their meeting.
