People in Pyongyang have expressed high hopes as their top leader Kim Jong Un is holding talks with Seoul's President Moon Jae-in.
The two leaders have concluded their first summit session on Friday morning. They had had "serious, frank" discussions on the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula and permanent peace, Seoul's official Yoon Young-chan told reporters.
The two sides were writing up a joint statement and the two leaders would announce it together, he added.
People from the DPRK had a brief news update on Friday morning about their leader going to a summit with the South.
The Worker's Daily announced Kim's departure from Pyongyang and a brief rundown of the summit schedule.
"Kim Jong Un will open-heartedly discuss with Moon Jae-in all the issues arising in improving inter-Korean relations and achieving peace, prosperity and reunification of the Korean Peninsula," it said.
While public discussion of the leader's activities is unusual, people on the streets of Pyongyang told foreign media that they hope relations between both the counties will improve, noting that this is their leader's intention.
