87 injured in Japan ferry collision

At least 87 passengers were injured, five of them seriously, after a jetfoil ferry hit an object in the Sea of Japan, NHK reported on Saturday.

The vessel, which was carrying 121 passengers, was on an internal trip to Sado Island in Niigata Prefecture from Niigata Port when the incident occurred at about 12:15 p.m. 

The injured were taken to hospital after the ferry arrived at its destination at about 1:30 p.m., local media reported.
