The press conference for the fifth Jackie Chan International Action Film Week was held in Beijing over the weekend. Initiated by world-renowned kung fu star Jackie Chan, the week aims to honor filmmakers who have made contributions to action movies worldwide.
The fifth Jackie Chan International Action Film Week will be held in Datong, north China's Shanxi Province, from July 21 to 27.
The movie week will screen critically acclaimed action movies from home and abroad, and present the “Iron Man Awards” to both films and filmmakers from around the world. Domestic and foreign filmmakers will also be invited to discuss the genre's development during the event.

While action movies are very popular, they rarely receive awards at film festivals. That's why Jackie Chan launched the event.
"Action filmmakers work very hard, they often face injuries, even life-threatening, but they are always heroes behind-the-scenes," he said. "The attention and recognition for them in the industry and international film festivals are far from enough. The action film week is to recognize the world's filmmakers who have made outstanding contributions to action films and speak for them."
Chan added that he hopes the event will help promote the Chinese tradition of action movies.

"I hope this action film week can help us breed new Chinese action film stars so that they can help in promoting Chinese action movies worldwide," said the kung fu movie star.
The event is sponsored by Jackie Chan and jointly organized by CCTV 6 and the local government of Datong.
Launched in 2015, the Jackie Chan International Film Week has become an important annual event for action filmmakers from across the globe.
