How did you express your appreciation on International Friendship Day?
One teenager in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh stole Rs 4.6 million (65,752 US dollars) out of 6 million (85,764 US dollars) kept by his father and distributed the money to friends to celebrate the day in a move that shocked his builder father.
The dad got the money from selling a property and kept it in a safe. He found the cash missing a few days later and immediately called the local police.
During the investigation, the police did not find any initial clues that the money was stolen but eventually cracked the case. They discovered that the builder’s son took the huge sum out and distributed among his friends.
The son, a class ten teenager, bought expensive gifts for classmates, such as mobile phones and bracelets. Besides, he donated Rs 15 lakh ($21,441 US dollars) to an hourly worker’s son and gave another friend Rs 300,000 (4,288 US dollars) for helping him do homework. The worker’s son disappeared after he got the money and one of the friends used his gift to buy a new car.
The father was totally shocked by his son’s generous act. He supplied a list of names of his son's friends to the police and they were trying to contact the students and their parents. “Parents of five students, who got the biggest shares, were summoned by the police and were told to return the money within five days," the Times of India quoted an officer as saying.
“The builder was unwilling to register a case since all of them were underage, so we are not taking any action against anyone,” Inspector Raman Singh from Gauri Ghat police station said.
So far the police have recovered Rs 15 lakh (21,441 US dollars) and they are still searching for the rest and trying to get them back. The hourly worker’s son who got the Rs 15 lakh is still missing.
Some Indian netizens made fun of this case saying they would like to send friend requests to the son.
