China lost to Germany 1-0 at Roazhon Park in Rennes on Saturday in their first game at the FIFA Women's World Cup France 2019.
Dominating throughout the game, the Germans claimed 62 percent of possessions and made 18 shots against China's four. But it was China that could have had some breakthroughs in as many shooting attempts, including Yang Li's two shots hitting the post.
The only goal for the game was scored by Germany's 19-year-old Giulia Gwinn, at the edge of the box at the 66th minute, thus leading her country to their first three points.

Germany's head coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg said after the match, "I'm very surprised by the Chinese team's performance. It was a competitive match, not a friendly match. It's important for players to get experience."
"Our one goal is a qualification for the Olympics. It's not easy. We realize how difficult the game is. Now we look at the next challenge against Spain," Voss-Tecklenburg pointed out.

China's head coach Jia Xiuquan told Xinhua, "We played well on both ends and showcased what we achieved in daily training, I feel regret that we lack a goal. We should accumulate experience to be stronger."
"I admit we are not at the same level, but my players have done a good job as they have the ability to fight against the world champions. I expect we can turn the disadvantages into advantages in the future."
For the other two matches on Saturday, Spain beat South Africa 3-1 in Group B, and Norway handed Nigeria a 3-0 loss in Group A.
On Sunday, there are three matches: Australia vs. Italy, Brazil vs. Jamaica, and England vs. Scotland.
China will next meet South Africa at the Parc des Princes in Paris on June 13 after Germany take on Spain at Stade du Hainaut in Valenciennes on June 12.
