Big Ben Renovation: London landmark to fall silent for 4 years
[]
London's famous "Big Ben" bell is about to fall silent for most of the next four years. The giant bell in the clock tower of Britain parliament will stop ringing next Monday when renovation work begins.

The hammers which have struck the 13.7 tonne bell every hour for most of the last 157 years will be locked and disconnected from the clock. But the bongs will still sound for important events such as New Year's Eve celebrations.
