Chrysler has announced a recall of 2,548 imported cars over faults in the brake light switch and the cover of the manual park release (MPR) plugs, according to China's top quality supervisor on Saturday.
Starting from December 29, Chrysler will recall 1,806 Jeep Wrangler vehicles made between August 7 to September 20, 2017, according to the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR).
The brake switches on the vehicles may malfunction, keeping the brake lights continuously illuminated and/or allowing the vehicle to be shifted out of the parked position without the brake pedal being pressed. This could lead to crashes.
The company will also recall 742 Pacifica models produced between April 19, 2017 to March 6, 2018 starting Saturday, statement from the SAMR website showed.
The cover of the MPR plug on the Pacifica vehicle may be removed without a tool. If the MPR plugs were released inadvertently, the vehicle could potentially roll away, causing collisions and hurting pedestrians.
The defective switches of the brake light and covers of the MPR plug in the recalled vehicles will be replaced.
