Xi vows to build China-Brazil ties into a model for developing countries

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday hailed China-Brazil relations, vowing to build it into a model for solidarity and cooperation among developing countries during his meeting with Brazil's Vice President Hamilton Mourao at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Xi welcomed the efforts Brazil has put in maintaining the comprehensive strategic partnership with China under the leadership of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, saying that the partnership has been developing steadily with fruitful results since the two countries established diplomatic ties 45 years ago.
Xi said that China-Brazil relations are at a crucial moment. He urged the two sides to enhance mutual trust and support, and strive to build a new type of international relations and a community with shared future for mankind. He also wished that the two countries can contribute to world peace, stability and prosperity together.
Xi reiterated China's support for the development of Brazil, calling for closer cooperation and common development under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
Mourao echoed Xi's remarks, saying that Brazil attaches great importance to the comprehensive strategic partnership with China and is willing to strengthen dialogue and cooperation between the two countries as well as to promote the integration of the BRI with Brazil's development strategy.
He welcomed China's investment in Brazil and wished to expand cooperation in various fields such as trade, technology and innovation.
He also thanked China for supporting Brazil to be host of this year's Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa Summit (BRICS) and expressed willingness to closely cooperate with China under multilateral organizations and frameworks, and jointly maintain multilateralism and uphold free trade.
