‍These monkeys have found a new game for the winter: jumping in the ice jungle and chasing around on icy tracks. The cold weather has not stopped them from having fun.

Gathering around streams and rivers, the macaque monkeys are mainly feeding on fruits, seeds, bark, grasshoppers, ants, etc. The specialized pouch-like cheeks enable them to store food temporarily.

Macaca mulatta is a second class protected animal in China, widely distributed in southern provinces like Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan, Fujian, and Henan. The unnecessary killing of the monkeys in the 1950s by farmers to defend their crops caused a sharp decline in its population. In recent years, artificial propagation has been used to increase the species' number in Kunming, Shanghai and Beijing.
