A one-of-a-kind hotel made of ice and snow has opened in Hailar of Hulun Buir, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, for the second year.
Made from 8,000 tonnes of ice and snow, the hotel has seven different types of suites. It also has a dining hall, a bar, a recreation hall, a reading room and a theater.
Almost all its facilities, including beds, tables and decorations are carved from ice. All the beds are covered with moisture-proof pads and reindeer fur.
The temperature in the suites is about minus five degrees Celsius, but warm sleeping bags and clothing are provided to ensure that guests will not get frostbites.
The ice and snow hotel is one of the measures that the local government has introduced to promote winter tourism this year.
Winter sports, such as winter Naadam featuring an international off-road racing on snow that kicked off on Sunday, are also being promoted in the lead-up to China's 14th National Winter Games, scheduled to be held in Hulun Buir in 2020.
