February 4 is World Cancer Day, which aims to increase awareness and encourage prevention, early detection and treatment of the disease. Cancer is one of the most serious health problems in Asia. Singapore has encouraged early detection, saying the proportion of those surviving at least five years after diagnosis has risen by 35 percent in the past 35 years, and the Chinese government has approved 17 anti-cancer drugs for inclusion in its national health insurance system.
