“I think they (US President Donald Trump and DPRK leader Kim Jong Un) will make a deal, they both need to make a deal, the world is expecting a deal,” said Loretta Napoleoni, an Italian investigative journalist and economist who wrote the book "North Korea – The Country We Love To Hate," in which she looks at the Western media and political narrative of the DPRK.

The DPRK said Wednesday that Pyongyang would reconsider attending the summit if Washington continues to demand that it unilaterally abandon its nuclear arsenal. Pyongyang also called off talks with the Republic of Korea (ROK) scheduled for Wednesday, blaming US-ROK military exercises.
President Donald Trump responded by saying "we'll have to see," without offering much insight into the new development concerning the summit, though he insisted he would not back down from his demand for the DPRK’s denuclearization.
“This will be a great opportunity for President Trump to withdraw, to a certain extent, these (nuclear) protocols. We (the Western media) should support this opportunity instead of continuously criticizing every single step forward taken by the DPRK and the US,” Napoleoni said.
“Historically, not one single country that has actually achieved a full state of nuclear power has ever denuclearized. We do need a new protocol in the world related to the nuclear power achieved by countries that are so-called ‘not allowed,’ like Pakistan, India and Israel. The DPRK is not the only country that has achieved nuclear saddles outside the permission of the international community.”
As she wrote in her book, Napoleoni pointed out there has been too much propaganda about the DPRK from the Western media. “It’s not a communist country, a Stalinist country, as the Western media has depicted. It’s actually a country which has been built upon very strong nationalist sentiment. It’s a blood dynasty, it's a society which is absolutely based upon the relationship of each family, to the top of the dynasty, which of course is the Kim family.”

“I would say the Western media also failed 20 years ago, 10 years ago even, to understand China. We tend to look at ourselves as a sort of perfect political system and economic system. China has modernized without changing its political structure. I think the DPRK could modernize in a different way from how we planned to modernize in the rest of the world.
“We have to show this kind of humility if we want to understand the world, otherwise we will be left behind. This is a big risk not only for Western media, but for Western civilizations,” she concluded.
