April 23 marks World Book Day, an annual event designated by the UNESCO to promote reading, publishing, and copyright. This year, anchors from the China Media Group will take you on a journey through the exquisite works of Shakespeare to explore the beauty of literature and language.
In the fifth episode, China Plus host Mark Griffiths reads “Sonnet 116”, which was first published in 1609. The sonnet has 14 lines and a rhyme scheme of three quatrains and a couplet. Sonnet 116 is about love in its most ideal form. It is widely seen as an attempt by Shakespeare to persuade readers what is true love, which never changes and is immeasurable.
Mark Griffiths currently hosts several shows at China Plus, including Classical Sunday and Special English.
