In the race to the top in 5G, companies that possess a large number of patents are ahead of the curve in terms of technology and market share. That's according to a report by IPlytics, an intellectual property analysis service. The report cites the concept of "standard-essential patents" – or patents that cover the technologies required to implement a certain standard – to gauge just how competitive these companies are.
