Beijing welcomed the New Year with a celebration in front of the National Aquatics Center, or Water Cube, a competition venue of the 2008 Summer Olympics and one of the venues for the 2022 Winter Olympics. As the clock ticked toward midnight, celebrations for the New Year around the world lit up the night sky with spectacular fireworks.
