The organizing committee of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games announced on Saturday that it will cater to as many spectators as possible by offering a range of ticket prices.
The most expensive tickets are those for the opening and closing ceremonies, within the range of JPY 12,000 up to JPY 300,000 (108-2,690 US dollars). The cheapest adult tickets will cost JPY 2,500 (22 US dollars) and a symbolic ticket price of JPY 2,022 (18 US dollars) is applied to children, the elderly, or individuals who are physically disabled.
Meanwhile, a school program offering discounted tickets will benefit more than one million students across the island country. Also, the organizing committee is considering a hospitality program allowing spectators to have free access to large section events, such as marathon, road cycling, and race walking.
At the end of the announcement, the Tokyo organizing committee gave a summary of the proposed price ranges for each event type and pledged to reveal detailed pricing later this year.
Residents of Japan can now register via the website https://id.tokyo2020.jp/ for further information on buying tickets. Foreigners can order the tickets either from authorized ticket resellers or through the National Olympic Committee in their respective countries. Prices may vary from country to country, the Tokyo organizing committee said.
