At least 15 people were killed, 42 wounded after a number of suicide attackers stormed a government building in Jalalabad, eastern Afghanistan on Sunday, health department officials said.
Multiple explosions were heard following gunshots, Reuters reported citing Attahullah Khogyani, a spokesman for the Nangarhar provincial governor.

Reports said one attacker appeared to have blown himself up at the gate of the provincial government's finance department, allowing the gunmen to enter, Reuters reported citing Sohrab Qaderi, a member of the provincial council.
More explosions were then heard coming from inside the building, he added.

He said at least four attackers, armed with rocket-propelled grenades and machine guns still appeared to be fighting police.
The attack took place in a busy area of the city with many other official buildings nearby, including a school in which around 1,000 girls were trapped as the fighting raged.
