Former Argentine captain Diego Armando Maradona on Sunday devoted his daily television programme “By the Hand of Number Ten” on teleSUR to the Argentine player Lionel Messi, who turned 31, and the England team’s emphatic win over Panama.
In yet another popular episode of the World Cup special coverage, Maradona looked at the cameras and addressed to Messi directly: “I would like to talk to him, tell him that you're not guilty of anything, absolutely anything. I respect as always.”
He also praised England, who steamrolled Panama to a 6-1 victory in their second group league game on Sunday. Hailing the English players, he said, “the way the current team is playing they are different from the previous English teams.”
About Panamanian performance, the Argentine idol stated that he enjoyed the solitary goal of the Central Americans “because people were reacting as if they had won the final”.
