Fentanyl was first synthesized in 1960. It is regularly used as a fast-acting general anesthetic in surgeries. But an overdose could lead to seizures, coma and even death. According to the World Drug Report 2018 published by the UN, opioid abuse is expanding dramatically. It has caused the most harm among the non-medical use of prescription drugs and accounted for 76 percent of deaths where drug use disorders were involved, especially in North America.
