Chinese President Xi Jinping and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on Monday congratulated each other on the successful launch of the China-France Oceanography Satellite (CFOSat).
The satellite was launched at Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center on Monday, via a Long March carrier rocket.
Space cooperation is an important part in China-France comprehensive strategic partnership, said Xi in his message to Macron.
The successful launch of the CFOSat is the latest achievement in bilateral space cooperation, which will play an important role in the monitoring of global marine environment, the prevention and reduction of disaster and dealing with climate change, Xi noted.
He added that China is willing to work with France to push forward bilateral cooperation in all fields to better benefit the people of the two countries.
Macron said in his message to Xi that the successful launch of the CFOSat marks an important step in the space cooperation between the two countries.
The project embodies the hard work of the space agencies and researchers of the two countries, said Macron. "And it also reflects the will of France and China to promote the international community's joint response to the challenges of climate change."
He added that the French side is willing to work with China to continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation in the field of space and climate change.
