On the first Saturday of each December for the last ten years, a special birthday party has brought together alumni from east China's Nanjing Normal University for one of their classmates, the man named Wang Xinjie.
December 7 is Wang's birthday. He's a Ph.D. holder and former employee at a newspaper. Wang was once recognized as one of the best students in his class, now can only think and act like a four-year-old child.
In 2009, when the group of university classmates was preparing for their ten-year reunion, Wang was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After two surgeries, Wang remained in a coma which seemed to last forever. His classmates took turns looking after him, until one day, the man, in his sleep, shed tears from the corner of his eye, after being called by one of his classmates and soon woke up.

According to Wang's mother in an interview, her son woke up with an intellectual level of a four to five year old child. Though he has a very good memory, he is not able to express things clearly. This frustration left his mother depressed, and she thanks his classmates for having been there for the family for the whole time.
In an attempt to include everyone, the first Saturday of December was chosen by his classmates as a date to celebrate Wang's birthday every year. One of his classmates said at this year's party that, "Celebrating Xinjie's birthday also gives us an opportunity for more communication and reunion. Life is precious. We should cherish it and be grateful."
The story of Wang and his classmates has been shared on China's Twitter-like platform Weibo with many users finding the story incredibly moving. "It's a miracle of love," one user commented.
