China have opened the second round of FIBA World Cup qualifiers with a late collapse against Lebanon, losing 92-88 in overtime after a close-fought game in Zouk Mosbeh on Thursday night.
Zhou Peng led the way for China with 25 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists, as Hu Jinqiu scored 14 and Wu Qian added 16 as Lebanon eked out a win despite having trailed almost throughout.
Returning to action for the first time since their morale-boosting victory over South Korea, China got off to a strong start, leading 25-18 early on. However, Lebanon surged with a stirring 10-4 run and had the game tied at 36-36 going into half-time.
China quickly regained their composure in the second half and took a lead late in the third quarter, before outscoring a valiant Lebanon side 25-18 in a devastating run.

In the fourth quarter, Lebanon stayed in touch in a game in which neither side managed a double-figure lead, and China seemed primed to win the game when Ren Junfei converted his free-throws to give the visitors a 77-74 edge with 25 seconds left. However, the hosts had other ideas.
Former Los Angeles Lakers player and naturalized center Ater Majok took it upon himself to get the job done to force overtime. In the extra period, the hosts maintained their momentum and took advantage of Zhou Peng's late blunder, pounced for the win in the last 30 seconds.
Despite the demoralizing defeat, Chinese head coach Du Feng continued to throw support behind the inexprienced young players who went through the baptism of fire.
"I have seven players who are playing in this competition for the first time," said Du, "And I think they had a very good game both in offense and defense before the third quarter."
