NBA: Doncic impresses in first season with Dallas

Before the NBA season, expectations were high for reigning Euroleague MVP Luka Doncic, and more than halfway through the campaign, he has already exceeding them.

The 19-year-old from Slovenia is averaging 20.4 points per game for the Dallas Mavericks and the point guard's maturity and court vision has caught the eye of everyone in the league, making him the leading candidate to win rookie of the year.

In his maiden season, Doncic has regularly been turning heads and helping Dallas win games. The fresh-faced teenager is also a big hit with viewers and has earned the second-most fan votes among Western Conference players for the All-Star Game, trailing only legendary LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers.

"I mean it's great, it's great that I can hear that but I'm focused on the team so I just wanna get this team in the playoffs and that's my goal for this year," The Mavericks guard said in an interview with SNTV, while reacting to his fabulous start to the season.

Doncic made his senior team debut for Slovenia in 2016 at the age of 17 and helped his country to win their first EuroBasket title in the following year. Subsequently, the teenager declared for the NBA draft and joined Dallas in 2018. Doncic's excellent performance has certainly been noticed back home.

Doncic also mentioned, "A lot as I said I know a lot of people watch me, so I appreciate they come here to the game, so now I get dressed and take a picture with them."

The wonder kid of the big, bold world of the NBA is also considered to be among the leading candidates for the NBA Rookie of the Year award. Nonetheless, he has already carved a niche for himself away from home and on the American soil.
