In breathtaking fashion, Wang Jianjiahe is threatening to stamp her name all over the swimming pools.

The 16-year-old breakout star continued her relentless pursuit to make history by collecting her fourth gold medal of the week as the Chinese National Swimming Championships concluded in the city of Rizhao, east China's Shandong Province on Wednesday night.

Wang beat a strong field to glory in the women's 800m freestyle, edging out Zhang Ke and Bi Wenxin, to add to her 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle victories earlier in the week.

From the moment Wang strode out sporting a bright pink tracksuit to huge roars, there was only ever likely to be one winner. The fresh-faced favorite absolutely smashed the final as she produced a quick finish to pinch gold in 8:29.04, more than three seconds clear of runners-up Zhang and Bi.

"I'm quite satisfied with my results," said Wang, her wide grin concealing a ruthless winning mentality.

"I've considered this tournament as a training drill and I think I've done a great job."

The Liaoning-born swimmer has been in hot form in recent months, snatching gold medals in the 400m free, 800m free, 1500m free and 4x100m free relay at the Asian Games in Jakarta in August.

In October, she went one better by smashing the women's 400m free SCM world record at the FINA World Cup in Budapest, becoming the first Chinese ever to hold a world record in the 400 free short course or long course event.

In recent years, several talents have emerged in China, but none has come even close to matching the success of the Chinese giant Sun Yang, who maintains his stranglehold in the swimming pool with incredible speed and ease.

But Wang is threatening to give her compatriots a run for their money.
